CELEBRATIONS

In my part of the world, Eid celebrations are taking place today. In view of that, Id like to wish all Muslims around the word a happy happy Eid ul fitr. May Allah grant you all your heart desires. Ameen.
Today has been a very colorful day here in Accra.As I was driving in town earlier,I saw a lot of Muslims having fun and celebrating in their beautifully made dresses.[side note-i just love how they have very beautiful fabrics.] Well, the celebrations going on is what inspired today's post on Celebration!
Celebrations are a social gathering or enjoyable activity held to celebrate something.Africans never pass up an opportunity to celebrate and have fun-from naming ceremonies,birthdays,weddings, even funerals-they would turn up until they burn out!I am one of those people you would call boring when it comes to celebrations.I am that person who goes for parties and never dances;that person who wouldn't even dance at her own party.I have been told many times that i have a way of taking the fun out of celebrations!.(I am wondering how i would even turn up at my own wedding!)Maybe, I am this way because I am super shy or maybe 'turning up is just not my thing'.There was this one time however that i was the life of a party.It has so far been my best celebration moment.It is the first and only time i reveled and made merry like no one's business. The occasion was at my 18th birthday party. So this is what happened- My friends decided that i had to have a birthday party so we could get to party hard. After months and months of begging my parents, they finally agreed and plans were made towards the party.A couple of schoolmates organised parties right before mine and they were all 'boring'(according to my friends' standards) because there was heavy adult supervision which meant no alcohol or dirty dancing. Thus, my BFF at the time  'purposed in her heart' to make my party the talk of town.We succeeded in convincing my big brother to get hard liquor for the party and also got him to convince the grownups to stay in the main building and let the kids party outside.(He had a huge crush on my BFF so he was willing to  do her that favor)Surprisingly,my dad agreed to this arrangement and only came out when it was time for me to cut my cake :) . Long story short, we all got wasted  drunk and partied hard  till midnight. I remember trying to 'grind' some boy i had a crush on. Mind you, i don't know how to dance so you can just imagine how disastrous it was!My friends taunted me with the video  recording for days!(I still get embarrassed every time i remember it).After partying at my house, we decided to continue at a club and it was fun. I got home at 3am and went straight to bed.Even though i had the worst hangover of my life that morning,it was the best the best time i ever had at a party.That morning my dad asked me what time i went to bed and i lied and said 12 30 am. He never found out that i went clubbing till today.(unless he reads this post,then I am doomed!). Writing about my 18th has made me feel all nostalgic!it was truly my best celebration moment.And yes, my party was the talk of town for months.Thanks to my BFF!

CELEBRATING GH ARTIST-JASPER

Today is all about art and Id like to introduce you to a budding Ghanaian artist.

-Tell us about yourself
My name is Jasper Kyei(of JaspArt), a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah university of science and technology where i majored in painting.I love to paint as much as i love to eat!

-Why did you choose painting?
 Panting has always been my thing.As a child,it was the one thing that made me very happy and it still does.Also,id like to say that art chose me and not the other way round.

-What kind of paintings do you do?
I am very versatile but if i had to pin down one area,id say i do mostly abstract or semi abstract.

-What/who motivates you?
I'm highly motivated by my mentor, teacher and artist Mr James Nii Adjei Ala.
Additionally,I'm intrigued by objects I find in my locality and in this contemporary era it is less complex to use different materials in a piece.

-What is your niche as an artist?
As an artist I love to use bright colours and lines in most paintings that I do. It is similar to Takashi Murakami's works which have colour and play. I also pick objects because of their rich historical content.

-What is your opinion on art in Ghana?
In Ghana art has not really gone through radical changes. The conscious effort to preserve a culture has brought a slow development in the arts.
Artworks are thereby marginalized by many since it really doesn't connect to their daily activities.

Why I love my Country-Ghana

I am a Ghanaian-proudly Ghanaian!and there are many reasons why i love my country some of which are very funny.

#The food!

Of course i had to start with food. Whats there not ot love about food?I  love Ghanaian food.From rice and groundnut soup to banku and tilapia.You just got to love Ghanaian food!My favourite of the lot is Kenkey with assorted fried fish and pepper. The kind of pleasure i get from eating it....mmmmmmm...I wouldnt give it u for all the rice in China!

#The People

Always smiling

Ghanaian's are such lovely people.What is there not to love about us? 98% of the time, someone is willing to help you. One thing that is synonymous with Ghanaian's is hospitality and be rest assured that when you are in Ghana, you wont feel like a foreigner.

Also, Ghanaian's are very hilarious! They find humour in every serious situation and make it look trivial. The current ECG #dumsorcrises (light out) is a perfect example of how Ghanaians find humour in serious situations













#The way people give directions

It is never house no1 orange street in "Applewood estates" but rather 'when you get to the junction you would see a roasted plantain seller, right next to her is a blue kiosk. Go behind the blue kiosk and go straight down,you will see a house with a tall mango tree.Ask anyone you see there for bro kwesi. they will bring you to my house". How will you ever get to a place if you are given such directions?its little wonder we always get lost when looking for places!lol

#You too can be a celebrity

It is only in Ghana you can become a celebrity just by appearing in an advert or one movie. Who wouldnt want that? #offtobecomeacelebrity

# Blue kiosk

There is a "spot" or "blue kiosk" in every corner where people can go and unwind after a long day or go and get a 'boost' to start the day

#Greenwich Mean Time also known as Ghana Man Time(GMT)

In Ghana,when you are invited for a program, you don't have to be there at the stipulated time . No one is ever on time or in time. When you are going for a program,make sure you use your GhanaMan Time(GMT) otherwise.... Don't say i didn't warn you ooh!

#Party/Weddings/Outdoorings

You don't need an invitation to go for a party, wedding or outdooring. As long as you heard someone talk about the date and venue, you can go there and eat as much as you want!


This is why I love my country.These and many more is why i love being Ghanaian!

Happy Republic Day Ghana!

Happy Republic Day Ghana! It has been Fifty five years since Ghana became a republic. Fifty five years  since we gained control of everything in our beloved country.Fifty five years since we proved to the world that 'the black man is capable of managing his own affairs'. After Fifty five years, is it still worth celebrating  Republic day when almost everything  in the country  is in shambles?
 I bet Dr Kwame Nkrumah is turning in his grave right now.  This is not the Ghana he fought for! This is not the Ghana he had hoped to create! After Fifty five years, people still live in abject poverty, we are still experiencing #dumsor,corruption has now become the order of the day, petrol prices are being increased, Accra is still flooding and the floods are killing people, NHIS no longer works, school feeding programme is not as effective, the cedi is experiencing  a free fall to major currencies.So many problems!Which way Ghana?  Our leaders who fought  for our independence and for us to be a Republic must be really turning in their graves! Sonetimes i just loose hope in our political  system. Ghana is not about NPP or NDC neither is it about CPP or PPP. Though we are many, we are one people and we need to work together as one irrespective of our political  affiliation.

O Mother Ghana! Your children  are suffering! and we can only ask for help from above! I believe that if there is going to be a change  in the  way things are right now, it depends on you and i. we need to be the change we want to see.  As the next generation of leaders, we the youth need to rally together and bring our beloved  country  out of the pit it has fallen into. But, i am thankful. thankful for everything being a Ghanaian has taught me and even as i write this with a heavy heart, i am still convinced that we can make it.  I know we can make Ghana work again. I am hopeful and I know Ghana can once again become a beacon if hope. But that can only happen if you and I make an effort

I love Online Shopping!

I have mentioned earlier on this blog that i love fashion.I just see clothes and my eyes pop out of my head (like in the cartoons).There was even a time i sent NEWLOOK a mail to open a store in Ghana because i was craving their clothing line.*covers face in shame* Because i loove fashion, i also love to shop. I think i am a shopaholic.At some point, i used to buy clothes on a daily basis which eventually made me  very broke so i had to cut down.Shopping for me is a sort of therapy and whenever i am sad and down, shopping cheers me up if i am sad. The only time shopping doesn't cheer me up when i am down is when i am in a very very dark place. However, this doesn't happen often
So what is the purpose of this long introduction on how much i love shopping? Even though i love to shop, i like to do it from the comfort of my bed rather than  going to the shops.I have been told by my friends that i am the only human being who prefers on line shopping to actually entering shops.(I know that i not true though.)I like online shopping because i get to scrutinize the clothes and imagine all the places i can wear it to before i buy them. When i lived abroad, i spent most of my spare time on online clothing stores looking at new trends and seeing what i could buy  afford. Unfortunately, i now live in a country(Ghana) where online shopping is yet to make waves so they are just a few online stores.Even the stores that claim to be online are not functional. Being determined to shop online from here, i searched and searched until i found an online boutique  which is fully functional. My joy knew no bounds the day i found Besaz Boutique. Besaz Boutique gave me cause to not give up on online shopping(review coming up soon) and i was glad with the results.
Well, what is the point of this post???I guess its to tell you how much i love clothes and online shopping and hopefully one of you lovely readers will offer to change my wardrobe!*winks*

Anyone that knows me well enough knows that the only other thing i love aside reading is fashion! No, Dont get it twisted! I am no fashionista!(well, in my head, i am the greatest fashionista that 'ever liveth'..lol) I just love to look at clothes and put them together .
